Brief Biography:

Lijian (Clint) Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Industrial Engineering Department at the University of Louisville. Dr. Chen received his Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from The Ohio State University. He holds a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Tianjin University, China.

Dr. Chen worked earlier in the General Electric Commercial Finance and then Extra Space Storage LLC as revenue manager/analyst. At the University of Louisville, he teaches courses in Stochastic Programming, Convex Optimization, Probability and Statistics, and Engineering Economy. He is currently one of professors in charge of the Uncertainty Laboratory. The laboratory research is directed toward the development of computationally tractable method for large scale stochastic and robust optimization problems. He is collaborating with Purdue, McGill University, University of Maryland, and Sandia National Laboratory for a large variety of decision problems under uncertainty.

Dr. Chen’s current research efforts focus on Stochastic Programming with Monte Carlo method, Probabilistic Programming for System Reliability and Service Quality. His work is currently supported by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) collaborating the Purdue University; Department of Homeland Security; and soon by National Science Foundation (status pending) and industry. He is the leading researcher of more than ten peer reviewed journal publications. With his solid liaison with industry, he is a the finalist of the 2010 INFORMS Revenue Management Practice Award and the semi-finalist of the INFORMS Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Operations Research and the Management Sciences.
